Dadly Christmas Wish List

Dads, we all have big roles to play in life. And one of the biggest is the Christmas morning wrapping paper cleanup job. Just wanted to remind you about that.

I also wanted to ask you about what you’re hoping to unwrap this Christmas: what are you guys asking for!?

Here’s a few things off my list. Please share some of yours in the comments!

Rickshaw Commuter Bag

Rickshaw Commuter Messenger BagI love messenger bags; don’t judge me, you don’t know me. I’m always on the lookout for the perfect intersection of tech, craftsmanship and style in a bag, and that journey has brought me to this one: the Rickshaw Commuter Bag.

It’s built really well, has good style, etc. It might be the only bag I need for the next 5-10 years.

Check out this great vid on the features of this bag if you’re interested.

Eagle Creek Tarmac 22 Carry-on

Eagle Creek Tarmac 22 for dadI’ve started doing a bit more traveling for business and I find myself in need of a trusty carry-on like this. This one from Eagle Creek is built well, has great reviews and a lifetime “no matter what” warranty:

How can you go wrong with that! ?

“If your luggage is ever damaged (even by the airlines) we’ll repair or replace it free of charge – no matter what.”

Ork Posters Portland Print

When you live in a place like Portland, where it’s grey and chock-full of flannel, fixed gears and beards which seem to repeatedly say “I were into them before they got big”, you gotta pretend it’s the most awesome place in the world… which means decorating your house with word-art in the shape of the neighborhoods of this lovely place.

They have loads of other cities too.

Lodge Logic Cast Iron Skillet

Cast Iron Skillet DadI’m just starting to get into cooking… well… I mean, I’ve just started loving preparing med-rare beef all by myself. And the cast iron skillet is something every aspiring pan-fryin’ man should own.

My wife did some research and apparently these ones are the greatest. Mmmmmm… I can already smell the black-pepper searing…

What Are You Asking For!?

Let us know what’s on your list in the comments of this post… maybe together we can crowdsource some inspired wish lists!

Okay dude. So we just got the Lodge Logic Cast Iron skillet – and it is amazing. I’ve made some mean sausage and scrambled eggs on ours. It’s great.

I also have the Eagle Creek Tarmac 22 – my wife and I each got one last year. I got the color you show above, and my wife got the green one. We LOVE them – they are amazing and you really can fit so much in them.

I’m taking a more esoteric route this year. With the arrival of children, the focus on giving to my kids has taken over from what I want. I want to teach my kids that it’s also good to give to others, not just receive.
However, what I want, and what I am getting, is a nice ride cymbal for my drumkit. Which is all kinds of win. Thank you ebay!
And I am still on the search for the perfect pen.

Hoping for a pair of hybrid road/trail tires for my mountain bike. Really wasn’t too much else on my list.

c’mon man! You gotta reach higher than that! What about an apron that says “WTF?”?

With a 3-yr-old and a 6-yr-old using every art creation tool they can dig up in my office, I made a list of a whole bunch of illustration-related items and sent it to my wife. Lead holder, ink, pens, erasers, several types of drawing pads (any I had are now full of my daughter’s single continuous scribble on every page – awesome), and so forth.

I may have also slipped in a new light box, a copy of Inception, and Call of Duty: Black Ops on that list…
