New Music For Dad: Ben Folds

A light Friday vid for you today… As you smoke your little smoke and drink your little drink here’s a little vid to help you try to make sense of the things that you think… might even help you think of some bigger things.

You may not need to keep watching past 3:50 or so. But you may like it anyways. You’ll definitely like the first part, but you may be “over” the second part, though I think it’s really cute. Except for his Italy shirt.

There’s a cool story behind this video. You might recognize Ben Folds’ voice in there, former singer of Ben Folds Five. It might be a little harder to recognize the talker brit guy who is Nick Hornby, a british writer/essayist. Nick wrote all the lyrics and Ben wrote all the music on this killer album which you’ll most likely love: Lonely Avenue (Amazon | iTunes). You can find out more about the project at

Then there’s these other people in there, a cute indie couple called Pomplamoose who make loads of videos like these on YouTube. They are great.

I’ve been a big fan of pomplamoose for a while now. good stuff. Thanks for posting – how do I become an amazing writer/essayist with loads of Brit character in my voice? I’m starting with whiskey and seeing where that gets me.

It seems like Mr. Hornby probably smoked a lot of weed early on in life and has a lot of philosophy and “blow your mind” universe books lying about because of it. You could add that to your repertoire… the whole “i used to smoke a lot of weed and now i just have loads of books” look?

Let me know how it goes. lol.

Digging everything about that. Specially the stand-up/barefoot drumming part. Such bombastic-ness.

Hornby is great, but his name doesn’t have an S. Leave it to the father in me to correct your spelling.

Check Ben’s song “Gracie” —

He has slightly “darker” parenting songs too.
