Midnight Banshee: Always Glad You Did

It’s 12:34am. The baby screams. It’s not one of those “maybe he’ll get over it and go back to sleep” kind of cries. My wife rolls over, mumbles “siggh rohrt urghn [fart]” which i take to mean it’s my turn to manipulate, bargain and beg the midnight banshee back to slumber.

Every single time that it’s my turn to put the midnight baby back to sleep I moan and groan and hate it. Everything in my body and mind resounds with a single: “This is going to suck.”

I go to the crib, and pick him up Put-Down 2.0 style and start gently bouncing… continue »

Dads With Beards vs. Mums

What are you going to tell your kids about shaving? How are you going to teach them how to shave?

It’s something I’ve thought about a lot, actually. I don’t remember my dad teaching me how to shave (he very well may have, I just don’t remember it). As it turns out he may have been doing me a favor by not teaching me to shave… continue »

Never Trust Your Baby’s Smile

It will seem like a miracle, like a farce. You’ll double-take and time will stop. Inevitably your heart will skip a few beats when, at some point in the first few months, your baby cracks his/her first smile!

This is an amazing time! It’s the first little bit of feedback that your baby is actually having an alright time. (It is no small wonder that babies are born with this little mechanism pre-installed, off the shelf, ready for playback… parents need this sh*t so bad!) continue »

Rickshaw Bag Review – Commuter 2.0

Every dad needs a good bag. I’ve been on the hunt for a great one for a while now, trying bags from Timbuk2, InCase, Nike, and others. I love that style between a Victorinox briefcase and a messenger bag… So when I saw the Rickshaw Commuter Bag I was intrigued… I put it on my list of xmas gifts for dad, no one got it for me, so I took matters into my own hands.

In this video I review the Rickshaw Commuter 2.0 bag. Long story short: it’s great, well constructed, with some really unique features.

Yo! There’s a coupon for Rickshaw Bags below! Be sure to check it out

Father Son Activity: Golf

My dad got into golf about 10-15 years ago. At first it was just a tool to help make new business relationships across the pond in Asia. But after a few years the sport took hold of him. Now it’s what he does, it’s what makes him happy, where he hangs out with friends — it’s a big part of who he is.

Over the past 10 years I’ve been around this golf stuff, but I never took it that seriously, probably because I was in that “FU parents! I’m into speed metal and my friends and my girlfriend and i hate you!” stage… it wasn’t the right time to try this sport, or any sport for that matter :) continue »
