Parenting Tips from Louis C.K. (My Hero)

Louis C.K. is one of the guiding lights in my life. He’s prolific. Don’t know him? He’s a comedian who’s always hilarious and insightful; two things i’ll always aim for because I think it’s the best way to communicate.

Perfect example: did you see his “everything’s amazing, nobody’s happy” video? It’s great; hilarious, insightful.

Ok, so, here’s a video where louis brings some stuff about parenting. He’s got daughters; he’s a real dad. I start it at 6m into it, but the whole thing is great.

louis runs with the foul language thing so if that offends you, beware (also, this may not be the most awesome spot for you online if cussing offends you :)

“What did that sh*tty kid do to that poor woman!?” Lol. It’s more than just funny. It’s like a release valve: as I watch this stuff I realize I’m not alone – I’m not the only dad who gets upset, fed up, tired, kinda shitty with my kids.

Not only am I not alone in that, but it’s probably more common than I think, and we’d do well to support our fellow parents. Not that we can do much, but an understanding look at the playground instead of putting on my “i’ve got it all together” vibe could be helpful (as well as liberating for me).

What do you think? Any favorite lines? Here’s some of mine:

  • “What did that sh*tty kid do to that poor woman!?”
  • “A kid never goes, ‘oh thanks, now I get it.'”
  • “Because you can’t have fucking nothing isn’t!”

Genius. I don’t think I’m at that ‘why’ stage yet but can totally empathise with some of the darker impulses he mentions…great find!

Luis C.K.? Is that comedian Louis C.K.’s non-union Mexican equivalent? ;)

Haha, hey I was just happy for a rare chance to use that Simpsons reference.

The first time I saw this I cried I laughed so hard. I literally have explained something back to the dawn of the cosmos to my son due to “why”. And it’s true. They don’t accept any answer. So funny.

HAHA! Brilliant! There are soooo many misconceptions I had about parenting before I had my own kids.

I got introduced to Louie CK a week or two ago and the guy cracks me up every time. Thanks for sharing.
